Sauna Usage FAQs

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

It is encouraged that you bring a Water bottle (use plastic metal may heat and cause burns), be in a comfortable clothing like swimwear, flip flops, have two towels (one for the bench and one for drying).

HOW LONG CAN I GO IN THE SAUNA FOR?

Saunas are typically enjoyed in rounds. The average session consists of 3 rounds with 15 minute intervals in the hot room. The first round will be the most intense as your body adjusts to the high temperature of the sauna… 120-160-200°. Come out for a break between rounds. Cool down in the outside weather, dip into a plunge pool, roll around in the snow, drink water, enjoy the stars. Then re enter for round two! Always Listen to your body and decide when enough is enough.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN A SAUNA?

Your goal in the sauna is to relax, recover, and revive. Never rush the experience. The hot room is a warm and quiet place Respect everyone’s space in the sauna. Some people like to talk. Some like to meditate or stretch. Some people are new to the experience and don’t know what they like yet. Be thoughtful to others.

You can use Vihta whisks (bundles of birch) to add a layer of aromatherapy to your experience.

WHAT DO YOU DO AFTER A SAUNA?

There are no set of rules or must do’s after a sauna session. Saunas will make you feel refreshed and even a little bit enlightened. Your body has been through a lot, dealing with all that heat and you may just feel like having a nap. Do it! Eat a healthy snack, stay hydrated and enjoy the post sauna rejuvenation.

SAUNA CODE OF CONDUCT?

While it was the traditional practice that you would go into a sauna naked, We ask and sincerely encourage everyone to either wear swimwear or use a towel to protect their modesty. Thank you for understanding.

CAN YOU TAKE FOOD AND DRINK INTO THE SAUNA?

No food or drink in the hot room please. We recommend keeping drinking water outside the sauna for before, after and during breaks. If you would like to bring water with you in the sauna please use a plastic bottle only as Metal water bottles heat up and have potential to cause burns. Keep hydrated!

CAN I USE ALCOHOL AND OTHER INTOXICANTS

Extra substances will inhibit your time in the sauna and are not safe for your health. To reap all the benefits a sauna can bring, please use it when fully hydrated.

CAN I WEAR JEWELLERY IN THE SAUNA

No. jewellery has the potential to heat up and has the capacity of causing potential burns, therefore jewelry, clothing with metal clasps, safety pins and similar items should not be used during a sauna session.

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS?

Saunas are known for their many health benefits. The heat from the sauna relaxes the body’s muscles and allows blood to flow more freely. The blood vessels dilate which helps improve blood circulation. It also encourages the release of endorphins. Endorphins not only make you feel good but they help the muscles deal with pain. Increased blood circulation has a therapeutic effect on your mental well being too. Sauna use will create a calming environment.
